Amazon Sword Plant

The Amazon Sword Plant (also known as Echinodorus amazonicus) is a large aquatic plant, native to the South American region, especially the Amazon River basin. It grows to an average height of 6-10 inches, in a bushy, thick-stemmed shape with thick, crook-tipped leaves that give it the ‘sword’ shape. The leaves themselves are usually a dark green color, but they may also have brown or yellowish patterns through them or at the edges. When grown in a bright light, the leaves will often become tinged with red. Another thing that makes it distinct is its unique root structure, with sprawling rhizomes and thick, white runners, so it is often used for ground coverage in aquariums.
